ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Name of the department: Kashmiri 2.Year of Establishment: 1990 3. Name of HOD: Syed Kausar Andrabi 4. Brief history and vision of the Department: The Department of Kashmiri was established in the year 1990 with the aim to promote Kashmiri language and culture. To get admission in this course students have to qualify the entrance examination and students are selected on the merit basis in this programme. The intake capacity of students for enrolment is not fixed. Student is provided an entry into the course which is affiliated with university of Kashmir till 2017 and with Cluster University Srinagar from march 2017 onwards. The department organized various workshops, seminars and symposia which has strengthened both the teaching and research activities of the students and the faculty. During this Covid -19 pandemic, when there is no access to offline activities the department took advantage of online mode and has organized national webinar in 2020 and 2021.It is worth to mention here that the department has got consent to from National Book Trust of India to collaborate with them and have shown their interest in conducting workshop on Translation in collaboration with Kashmiri Department of Amar Singh College. Also Central Institute of Indian Language, Mysore has granted consent to sign MoU with the college. A letter has also been sent to Aligarh Muslim University (MoU enclosed) to sign MoU with the department and still waiting for the approval from their end. Vision: 1. To provide quality education to meet the need of profession and society. 2. Provide a learning ambience to promote Kashmiri Language and Culture. 3. In addition to providing academics the department is trying to create platform to enhance Research output as Amar Singh College has recently been designated as Research Hub for Languages and Fine Art and Music and also in the backdrop of NEP 2020 which emphasizes on promotion of Regional Languages for which the proposed projects has been sent to higher education department for the approval and ground work has also been done wherein several meeting were conducted and multiple brains were brought together to have intellectual advice and working suggestions. 4. Proposal to promote performative arts as Skill Enhancement Course and to give students broader platform, training and exposure to various institutes of National repute for which matter has been discussed with various institutions and require approval from your good offices to move the proposal officially. 5.The department is alsolooking forward to establish translation cell for the translation of literary texts, poetry etc from Kashmiri to other languages and vice versa to enrich the learning material in Kashmiri and also to bring Kashmiri literature thereby Culture to the global platform. 6. Kashmiri being one of the oldest and richest indigenous Culture of India and as culture and language are like dance and dancer, the department of Kashmiri wants to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture to promote Kashmiri language and Culture which too has been discussed with the Joint Secretary , Ministry of Culture, Govt of India for which due to COVID 19 formal proposal could not be put up.
